Men's Mental Health Survey
At Swindon Borough Council, enhancing mental health and wellbeing is a key priority within Swindon’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy, with a particular focus on boys’ and men’s mental health.
Positive mental health is more than just relieving or preventing depression and anxiety – it is also about feeling safe, informed, and confident in making decisions that support your emotional wellbeing. It includes having access to clear information, knowing where to find professional support, and feeling respected and supported in a safe environment.
Swindon Borough Council is carrying out a consultation with residents to better understand the mental health needs of men in the borough.
The survey is made up of several sections:
Section 1 asks a few short questions about your own experiences and how you view your mental health. It covers whether you have experienced challenges such as low mood, depression or anxiety, how much of a priority you place on your mental health, and how you would currently rate your overall wellbeing.
Section 2 explores awareness of mental health services and support in Swindon. We want to know whether local residents are aware of where to get help, what types of support they use or would prefer to use, and how well these services are working.
Section 3 looks at the different ways people maintain their mental health and what kinds of support they would find most helpful. This includes activities you may already use, such as exercise, hobbies, or talking to friends, as well as additional support you might value in the future.
Section 4 asks whether you would be interested in taking part in a community engagement session.
Section 5 is optional and may be completed at your discretion, depending on whether you feel comfortable sharing your demographic information
We would like men across Swindon to take part in this survey, whether or not they have experienced a mental health concern. Your views are vital in helping us identify gaps and strengthen the evidence base around men’s mental health. This information will support us in coordinating current and future services for men and boys in Swindon.
Please be mindful that answering these questions may be upsetting or triggering, so please do contact any of the services or organisations for support in the following link, if needed.
Thank you for taking the time to share your views.
The consultation will remain open until 31 October 2025.
